Spoofing Bank Phone Numbers

June 12, 2024

Area banks are reporting the spoofing of their phone numbers.  Fraudsters are calling customers stating they are from the bank and are calling regarding potentially fraudulent transactions.

The fraudsters appear to be asking customers for their login ID as part of their verification and are then asking for a one-time-passcode “that they just sent”. The fraudster makes up excuses for asking for the code when the message itself says not to provide this information to anyone.

Depending on the customer’s setup, the fraudsters appear to be using ACH, wire, external transfer and Bill Pay to steal funds from the customer.

Please remember we will never call you for this information since it is information we already have on file.  Please never provide any information, hang up and call your bank.
